The Sacred Ecology of the Salang Tendrel
March 10
Under the guidance of H.H. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche, the sacred Salang Tendrel marks the vital transition from vision to reality for the Kurukullē Centre in Gelephu Mindfulness City.
In keeping with Bhutanese tradition, this sacred groundbreaking ceremony is a profound demonstration of respect for the environment, acknowledging the earth as a living, breathing entity. Before a single stone is moved, we pause to humbly seek permission from the Earth Goddess (Sa Yi Lhamo) and the invisible guardians of the soil (Sadag and Nagas). This ancient ritual embodies a deep ecological consciousness, reminding us that we are guests here. By making offerings and reciting ancient prayers, we apologize for the disturbance we are about to cause and ask that our presence be a blessing rather than a burden. By harmonizing with these invisible forces, we ensure that the Kurukullē Centre is built on more than just concrete and steel; it is built on a foundation of ecological reverence and spiritual peace. As the earth is turned, the site is purified, ensuring that the sanctity of the environment is preserved even as the walls begin to rise.
