Gelephu Mindfulness City

Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC)

Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) is a transformative vision guided by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to create a city where spirituality, innovation, and sustainability come together. Rooted in Bhutan’s timeless values and the philosophy of Gross National Happiness, GMC is designed as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) that redefines urban development by placing inner well-being and ecological harmony at its core. With a master plan inspired by sacred mandala geometry, the city will integrate spiritual sanctuaries, nature, and purposeful economic clusters—including wellness, green technology, education, and creative industries. GMC aspires to be a global model of conscious living—where progress is measured not only by economic growth, but by the depth of human experience, compassion, and connection to the natural world.

His Holiness Gangtey Trulku Rinpoche, also known as Kunzang Rigdzin Pema Namgyal, is the Ninth Gangteng Tulku and a revered master of the Pema Lingpa lineage within the Nyingma tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism. Born in 1955 in Karshong, Trongsa, Bhutan, his birth was accompanied by auspicious signs and prophecies, and he was formally recognized as the reincarnation of the Eighth Gangtey Tulku by several eminent spiritual masters, including His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, Dudjom Rinpoche, and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

From an early age, Rinpoche displayed exceptional spiritual insight and devotion. He began his monastic education at the Trongsa Dratshang and later pursued higher studies in Buddhist philosophy at the prestigious Ngagyur Nyingma Institute in Mysore, India. He
received profound teachings, empowerments, and transmissions from high lamas across multiple traditions—particularly the Nyingma, Sakya, and Kagyu schools—integrating deep scholarship with meditative realization. He also undertook a rigorous three-year retreat in Bhutan, further deepening his experiential understanding of the Dharma.
